Deadman's Cove is a rock and pebble beach between Portreath and Godrevy, also known as North Cliffs beach. Hard to access and unsuitable for swimming or surfing, Deadman's Cove is said to be haunted. Recent dramatic rockfalls make this beach particularly dangerous.

  • Portreath Beach (3.2 miles)

A sand and shingle beach bounded by high cliffs on one side and the historic harbour on the other. Popular with families and surfers, the little coastal town of Portreath offers plenty of facilities.

Godrevy is an exposed, sandy beach at the very northern end of Hayle's "Three miles of golden sand". It is not clear where Godrevy beach starts and Gwithian ends but I have been reliably informed it is at Gillick Rock. Other people say it is to the north of where the Red River runs into…

Gwithian is a very long and exposed sandy beach that joins up with Hayle Towans and Godrevy at low tide. Very popular with surfers of all abilities, although there can be serious rip currents. A car park and cafes above the beach.

Porthtowan is a large sandy beach, backed by imposing cliffs, in the St Agnes Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. North-west-facing and popular with surfers, Porthtowan beach is a short walk from neighbouring Chapel Porth (the pair join up at low tide). There is a large car park, cafes, shops, a surf shop and…

  • Chapel Porth Beach (6.5 miles)

Set at the end of a long deep valley in the heart of Cornwall's mining country is Chapel Porth beach. Located between Porthtowan and St Agnes this lovely Cornish beach can be a little tricky to find - and that's the way the locals like it! Chapel Porth is managed by the National Trust
