Wherrytown is a large pebble beach between Penzance and Newlyn. Clean, safe swimming and easy access from the promenade.

There are a couple of areas that could be described as beaches between Penzance harbour and the end of the Promenade at Wherrytown.

At lower tides there is a small band of sand and shingle running along the front of the Promenade. The foreshore here is almost completely rocks - great for rockpooling but not so…

The little west Cornwall fishing village is well known for its charms. In fact it was once described by the poet Dylan Thomas, as the loveliest village in England. Eastern Green is the closest beach to Penzance, accessed via a concrete footpath from the bus station. The sheltered sand and shingle beach follows the curve of Mount's Bay to Long Rock. Clean water and safe swimming make it popular with locals.

  • Lamorna Cove (2.9 miles)

The privately owned Lamorna Cove is set at the bottom of a lovely wooded valley somewhere between Mousehole and Porthcurno. The cove itself is very much devoid of trees and is quite a rugged granite affair. On the eastern slopes of the cove and around the high tide mark are lots of small granite boulders.…

  • Longrock Beach (2.7 miles)

Longrock beach lies around half way between Penzance and Marazion. Despite being a long sandy beach with views over Mount's Bay and St Michael's Mount, it is rarely ever busy. It does have a slightly scruffy feel in sections where it backs onto the railway lines but is generally clean and swimming is very safe.…
