Sandfields East Beach (Aberafan) (Aberafan Sands)

This long strip of sandy beach stretches north from the Afon Afan (River Avan) estuary near Port Talbot Docks, right up to the Afon Nedd (River Neath) estuary.
The golden, sandy beach is backed by sea defences and a promenade which is popular with pedestrians and cyclists. There are a couple of cafes and restaurants along the seafront, and children’s play area and skate park nearby.
Swansea Bay has one of the world’s highest tidal ranges, and at low tide a vast area of wet sand is exposed here.
Although the views of the Tata Steelworks and cranes of the ports may not be to everyone’s taste, there are also good views right across Swansea Bay towards Mumbles.
The beach is popular with locals who come here to swim, sunbathe, surf, kitesurf and kayak. There is a surf school along the beach near the Port Talbot Lifeboat Station.
