  • Greatstone Beach ‘s two miles of sandy shoreline, dotted here and there by large rocks, has been a favorite of holidaymakers for generations.

The long stretch of flat, soft sand and safe swimming waters, as well as the increased popularity of watersports at this beach, make it easy to see why Greatstone is such a popular destination. At low tide, the water goes out almost half a mile, exposing even more sand for visitors to enjoy. The beach’s conditions make it ideal for windsports in particular, including land yachting, windsurfing, kitesurfing and kiteboarding.

The Greatstone Dunes that run along nearly the entire length of the beach and separate the seafront from land are also a Site of Specific Scientific Interest. A wide variety of rare plant species grow on the dunes and the area supports a strong population of small animals and insects.

Stretching from Dungeness point all the way North to Romney, there is plenty to see at Greatstone Beach. Dungeness National Nature Reserve allows visitors to see and learn about the wide variety of wildlife that lives in the area, while a walk to Romney Marsh reveals a unique and interesting landscape.

Train lovers will also enjoy Greatstone for the fact that the Romney to Dymchurch steam railway can be seen running along the beach.

Lovely sandy beach with car park. Nice and clean.  Not too many people. No running water in the toilets so we were unable to wash our hands but otherwise a great day out.

Greatstones is a little gem. Having been going all life. The generation before me and since continue to go. Lovely sand dune beach. Good for a relaxing day out. No arcades or rides , just good old family fun. Playing games , digging sand castles,  swimming , scrimping,  cockling and collecting shells. Ideal for picnics,  but is a fish and chip shop near by.
There is toilets next to the beach and car park.
It is part of a nature reserve and as go further along the coast you come to the New Romney nature reserve for bird watching. Fab meals in the Pilot pub and you can dogs in there.
Do try it I am off for 2nd visit this year

Ok beach, nothing special about it.  We usually drive to the coast from London and have been to Camber Sands twice.  We decided to try somewhere different this time and visited Greatstone which is approximately 8 miles from Camber.  There is parking right next to the beach and we went on a weekday so the beach was not packed.  Great for a day out if you are local but I won’t be returning as there is nothing special about it and not worth driving 2 hours+ to visit.
