Blue Anchor Bay
The beach at Blue Anchor Bay consists of an impressively long stretch of sand and shingle. Generally shingle above the high tide mark, when the tide goes out an expanse of red-tinted sand is revealed.
Much of the beach is backed by a concrete wall along which a wide pavement runs giving it something of a promenade feel.
The beach at Blue Anchor is sprinkled with alabaster rocks, which are great for finding fossils. You will often see people chipping away at the rocks along the foreshore in the hope of finding a fossil fish, or maybe even an ammonite.
Situated between Minehead and Watchet the Blue Anchor beach is backed by a small village of the same name. The West Somerset railway stops here with the beautifully preserved Blue Anchor station located just behind the beach.

Blue Anchor Bay Reviews
Great beach

Mar 05th 2022Great beach, free parking, two cafes and a shop. Dog friendly. Pretty pebbles and larger pieces of alabaster. I have yet to find a fossil!
You do need to be aware of the mud at low tide.

Brilliant Dog Friendly Beach

Aug 14th 2022Great place to bring your dog all year round, the beach is a mixture of sand, shingle and rocks. The Hoburne Holiday Park where we stayed has a brilliant cafe with barista coffee and amazing cakes which we enjoyed and a convenient dog shower which is amazing especially after our dog buster got muddy.
Natural unspoilt
Stunning area. Natural , unspoilt
More stone than sand
If you’re used to the amazing beaches in Northumberland and Norfolk then this beach is a mega disappointment. It’s very stoney and when tide is out ,it’s just mud. Tide comes in very rapidly. Water is murky too.
