Preston Sands (Paignton)
This clean, safe, sandy beach is ideal for families: activities include sandcastle building or rock pooling at low tide. Behind the beach is a grassy area known as Preston Green, which includes a children’s playground. Activities on offer include bathing and swimming but be aware there is no lifeguard service at this beach. There is a slipway to the beach, and steps at various points along the seafront: the tide comes up to the stepped areas.
The long seafront has plenty of direct access to the sand. The promenade is lined with cheery beach huts, available for hire. Deck chairs can also be hired. There is a café and a shop right next to the beach. A kiosk on the seafront sells a selection of drinks, hot and cold snacks, and ice cream.
The beach itself is spacious and quite flat. A beach wheelchair can be borrowed, and there are accessible toilet facilities but not all are free (some toilets cost 30p, usually via card).
