Cellar Beach

This small pebble and sand beach is one of a number of hidden coves on the shore of the Yealm Estuary.

The name of the beach goes back many centuries to a time when the local farmers would also have a fishing boat. The “cellars” were the stores used to put their equipment in.

These days there isn’t much fishing going on at Cellar beach but the area is known for oysters instead. The area just off the shore is also home to sea horses which live among the beds of seagrass.

The nearest parking is in Noss Mayo which is a very pleasant 30 minute, riverside walk away. The village is also where you will find any facilities.
