Machroes is a long, sandy beach located to the south of the town of Abersoch, and backed by the Abersoch Golf Club. The area is popular for a range of water sports such as sailing, windsurfing, jet- skiing and canoeing. To the north, the beach merges with Abersoch Beach where there is a yacht club.

At the southern end of the beach there is a small car park, a café that overlooks the beach, a picnic area, a shop, and public toilets. The beach, which is accessed via a slipway, is dissected by a number of wooden groynes, which help to prevent erosion. There is also a fairly large car park on the outskirts of Abersoch, a short walk from Machroes Beach.

Dogs are banned on the beach from May until September.

Further facilities such as restaurants, pubs, shops and places to stay can be found in the former fishing village of Abersoch, which is now a centre for tourism.
