Seatown Beach
Seatown is a coastal hamlet with a privately-owned beach, just east of Golden Cap, the highest point on England’s south coast. Set at the end of a country lane, near the village of Chideock this pretty coastal hamlet is somewhat quieter than neighbouring beaches.
The steeply shelving shingle beach is open to the public and popular with fossil collectors, fishermen and families alike. Located at the mouth of the river Winniford there’s plenty for kids to explore here.
Seatown beach is overlooked by the multi award-winning Anchor Inn. This coastal pub is well known for its seafood and range of ales.
There are no lifeguards at Seatown beach and the steep bank often has a strong undertow, even when the waves are small. So caution is advised.

Seatown Beach Reviews
Beautiful natural beach. Potential to be truly lovely. Dog free - really?

Aug 11th 2022Happy to pay car parking fee on this day - over £1000 raised for RNLI on the day we parked. Go RNLI! A busy little fete going on: food, stalls, emergency services reps. Great atmosphere. Lots of fun.
Toilets: few and well used, but this is the norm for a British beach at the height of the summer. No regular cleaning policy in evidence.
Most people choose to encamp together by the facilities - space for those who want a more chilled experience a ten-minute walk to either end of the curving beach.
Beautiful water - so warm! Waves gently lapping. Fossil hunters tapping! Some distance, across-the-bay swimming going on, paddle boarding, family games and paddling etc.
The huge let down: so I can only give 3 stars ... the dog owners disregarding the summer ban to allow for safe ‘human’ swimming and playing. About 8-10 dog owners chose to take their animals onto the beach and into the water. I didn’t want to challenge them so I suppose they will continue to disregard the private landowner’s wishes. At Blackpool Sands in Devon (also a private beach) the car-park attendant looks into the car when you pay and turns the few cars bringing dogs away.
In this case, the signage in the village is clear. Perhaps, a sign on the main road might inform and deter dog owners?
An element of the dog owning lobby is vociferous and entitled, and not a little aggressive if challenged while disregarding countryside and beach policy - the situation at this beautiful beach is an example of the debate: how can we share our beautiful coast and countryside for the benefit of all user groups?
Awful experience

Jun 03rd 2022Toilets shut on Bank Holiday. FIve pounds to park and be insulted by misogynistic car park attendant. Definitely more likely to go abroad now.
