  • Overstrand is located to the south east of the town of Cromer. The beach is wide and sandy during low tide, perfect for building sandcastles or relaxing in the sunshine, but at high tide the water comes all the way back to the sea wall. It is therefore advisable to check tide tables before visiting.  The beach here is a lot quieter than nearby Cromer and is a popular for range of activities such as swimming and surfing. However, there is no lifeguard service.

Although there is no vehicular access, there is a car park with public toilets above the beach and access is via a long, gradually sloping path.

Overstrand beach is located along the Norfolk Coast Path and is an ideal place to begin a coastal walk. The path offers some spectacular cliff-top scenery.

In the village of Overstrand there are cafes, a pub and a village shop. Just along the coast at Sidestrand the parish church was moved back from the sea front during the 19th century to protect it from coastal erosion, although its tower was left at the original cliff-top site.

Lovely sandy beach that stretches for miles and much quieter than Cromer.

Norfolk need to learn from Cornwall who this year decided dogs should only be banned in peaked tourist season July & August and it’s working well!

Everyone’s happy including the 40% of visitors who come with their dogs!
