  • Mundesley is considered one of Norfolk’s finest beaches, long and sandy with safe swimming at low tide and all the amenities and charm of a popular seaside resort. Backed by a promenade lined with colourful beach huts, Mundesley Beach is a family friendly beach about 8 miles southeast of Cromer.

The beach is fairly narrow, particularly when the tide comes in, but it is child-friendly and good for swimming and paddling. Coastal erosion is a problem with groynes helping to reduce the natural drift of sand.

The long stretch of firm golden sand is backed by cliff top gardens housing the smallest maritime museum in the world! A further point of interest is a clifftop memorial to the Bomb Disposal teams that cleared the Norfolk coast of landmines post WW2.

Parking (pay and display) is available nearby and the Blue Flag beach is accessed by steps down the cliffs. It has good facilities with RNLI lifeguards patrolling in summer. Dogs are limited to a dog-friendly zone from May to September. However, the promenade provides long scenic walks as far as Trimingham and the Norfolk Coast Path goes even further.

Loved the beach ideal for all the family so much soft sand plus the reassuring presence of beach life guards. The grandchildren had a whale of a time doing the usual things kids do building sandcastle’s, paddling etc.
We stayed in the village at a quiet chalet park just a 10 minute walk from the village centre. There’s a pub and hotel providing meals if you felt like an evening out plus two fish and chip shops for take away.

If you’ve never been to the North Norfolk coast this an excellent place to start.  The two weeks I spent there in late September was amazing because the waves were big for a few of the days and the break clean and glassy.  I really had had no idea surfing here could be so good.  Highly recommend staying in any of the chalet parks in the village.  I ended up staying in two as I extended my stay by a week.  I can’t recall either of their names unfortunately, but both were within walking distance of the beach and very reasonably priced.
