Dunmore Strand Beach (Dunmore East)
Nestled in a sheltered cove Dunmore Strand is protected from most of the winds and waves. The beach here backs onto the charming little fishing village of Dunmore East with the Strand pub overlooking the beach.
This sandy beach ranges from being a wide expanse that stretches all the way around to neighbouring Counsellors Strand to all but disappearing at high tide. Therefore make sure to check the tide times before you plan your trip.
Access to the beach is easy via a ramp making it both accessible and a suitable launching spot for small watercraft.
The natural features of this cove will appeal to both families and geologists alike; there is a cave and plenty of rock pools at either end of the beach. The red sandstone cliffs are fine examples of folded strata as well as being home to nesting seabirds such as kittiwakes.
Dunmore harbour is home to an adventure centre which offers a range of watersports such as kayaking and diving along with other activities, like rock climbing. You will also find plenty of boat trips from the harbour if you fancy going dolphin spotting or a bit of sea-fishing.
