South Gare is an area of Redcar beach located by breakwater on the southern side of the mouth of the river Tees. The land here is all reclaimed and was created using waste from the local steel industry.

Now the industry has largely gone the area has become a haven for wildlife with a variety of habitats attracting a wide range of birds.

The wide sandy beach is suitable for windsurfing and kite-surfing. It is also a popular angling spot. Fishing is best off the end of South Gare breakwater and this is also a good spot to watch ships coming and going.

It is one of the best places I’ve been and stayed in my van.
Very quiet.
Little fire going on a night watching the sunset.
Lovely beach . And a cafe open Saturday and Sunday.
Even got volunteering litter pickers that do a great job
And very friendly prople .
What else do you want.
And great for dogs ????

A lovely quiet walk from Majuba carpark to south gare. It’s a shame about all the litter off tod point though

This was a peaceful place to go for a beach walk, now it feels like we are intruding and being watched.
Looks like lots of vans meet up and stay for the weekend, no facilities so they are polluting the area.
