Roker (Whitburn South) Beach
Also known as Whitburn South, wide and sandy Roker Beach is one of the unsung hidden gems of the north east English coast. For those who tire of the beach, there’s a model railway as well as a boating lake and display gardens. There are several pleasant cafes and parking and refreshments are generally good value.
Popular activities are canoeing and kayaking, cycling, fishing, jet-ski, sailing, walking, and windsurfing. There are pleasant walks with dramatic views, and at the right time of year you might spot dolphins in the sea off the beach, pier, or lighthouse.
There is a lifeguard service at this beach, and dogs are restricted to certain areas; there are also basic toilet facilities at regular intervals. Parking can be busy, although limited parking is available at some local supermarkets.
