City Beach (Sunderland)
This small section of sandy, urban beach is found on the south side of Roker Pier, in Sunderland. The beach is sheltered by the pier and a sea wall to the south, beyond which is the harbour where the River Wear enters the sea.
City beach is backed by two large car parks and a promenade. There is a fish and chip shop, and cafes can also be found along the promenade.
On the south bank of the River Wear are Sunderland Docks. It is possible to walk along the pier to the distinctive red-and-white-striped lighthouse that has stood here since 1903.
Every July, a large, international air show is organised in Roker, immediately to the north of the beach.

Jun 01st 2020Roker beach is fantastic, close to the marina and lighthouse, get a good walk up to and beyond Seaburn beach. Swimming (weather permitting), fishing, surfing or paddling ???? there’s something for everyone.
