  • This secluded little cove lies between Hartland Quay and Blegberry beach on a rugged and dramatic section of the North Devon coast. Also known as Abbey River beach; this name comes from the stream which flows out from the beach and is named after Hartland Abbey which it passes.

Like all the beaches around Hartland, Blackpool Mill is characterised by high cliffs formed of heavily folded rock strata and jagged fingers of rock reaching out into the sea. The beach itself is composed of large grey pebbles above the high tide mark although you might find some sand on lower tides.

The beach is always quiet as it is a good walk from Hartland Quay. There is also a scenic walk down the wooded valley from Hartland Abbey.
