Ardrossan is a popular resort town on the North Ayrshire coastline.  It has two beaches, a harbour, shops, cafes and a mysterious pre-historic shell mound close to the railway station.

Boydston Shore, also known as North Beach or North Shore, is a sandy beach to the north of the harbour.  Just off the beach one can see Horse Island, an uninhabited island which is now a bird reserve, at the southern end of which is an iconic 52-foot stone tower built in 1811.

Beyond that there are lovely views across the Firth of Clyde towards the peaks of the Isle of Arran.
