Celtic Cross at Tywyn y Capel, Trearddur

Tywyn y Capel (dune of the chapel) was the site of a Celtic religious site establish by St Bridget (Santes Ffraid in Welsh) who arrived here from 6thC Ireland on a floating sod. Once the sod reached land it turned into a green, oak-covered, hill on which Bride built her church. Associated with the church was a cemetery which was still in use as late as the 17thC. The cross is inscribed in Irish, Welsh, Latin and English. The inscriptions read A BRIHD BHEANNAITHE GUIDH ORAINN Y SANTES FFRAID GWEDDIA DROSOM NI SANCTA BRIGIDA ORA PRO NOBIS SAINT BRIDE PRAY FOR US The cross was erected by the Trearddur Millennium Committee and unveiled by the Anglican Church in Wales Bishop of Bangor. http://www.holyhead.com/tbaycelticcross/index.html
