Torre Abbey Beach - Devon

Torre Abbey Sands

Torre Abbey sands is located in the heart of Torquay with of plenty of parking nearby. At high tide the beach is covered completely but during the winter months this stretch of road has to be closed at times due to the waves crashing over the sea wall. In the centre of the picture is Torquay's Hi Flyer Balloon.http://www.thehiflyer.com/ The 25-metre-high balloon was inflated at Torre Abbey Gardens in May 2008 when it was filled with 6,000 cubic metres of helium gas. Torbay Council says the balloon is the perfect attraction - but opponents claim it is in the wrong place and want it moved to another location. The new balloon fly's 400ft above the ground, giving 30 tourists a time - each paying £15 - a bird's eye view of the surrounding area. But opponents of the attraction argue it has been put in the wrong place and say nearby Paignton Green or Goodrington would be more suitable. Bournemouth and Leeds Castle in Kent have similar attractions.
