Tide Mills Beach - East Sussex

Mill Creek and ruins of tide mills

Dist:0.1km
The tide mills used the creek to fill a mill pond beyond the mill on a rising tide, which was then used for power on a falling tide. The mill pond is now largely gone, and the creek probably does not rise or fall as fast on the tide as it did, as there is now a sluice at the inlet in Newhaven. The mills were last used in around 1900. There was a small village here as well, off to the left, called with no great imagination Tide Mills. The last inhabitants were evicted in 1939.
