Glacial erratic boulder
Dist:0.2km
A number of impressive erratic boulders lie on the beach platform to the north of Howdiemont Sands. The smooth profile and polished surface of this monster are very attractive, and show that it comprises basalt or microgabbro from the Great Whin Sill, whose outcrop is mostly to the north of this location. The movement of ice which carried these boulders was in therefore in a southerly direction. My assistants are posing perfectly for scale.
