Camusdarach Beach
Camusdarach Beach is a curving bay of white sand and clear water located just south of the estuary of the River Morar, famously known as the UK’s shortest river. It is easy to reach from the A830 “Road to the Isles” from Mallaig with a short walk from the car park through low undulating dunes.
The surrounding scenery from this beach is stunning with views of the jagged Cuillins on the nearby Isle of Skye, distant peaks of Rum and the sea cliffs on the isle of Eigg on the horizon.
There’s plenty to see and do here with swimming, coastal walks and rock pooling at low tide. One of the best walks starts at the beach and heads inland with views of Loch Morar which are stunning.
Despite it’s remote location, Camusdarach Beach does get a steady stream of visitors partly as it was used as a film set for shooting the location where hermit Ben Knox lives, in the cult film Local Hero. It’s also a popular place for local barefoot weddings with its crystal clear waters, wild flowers and stunning backdrop.
Great for sunsets, you might even have it all to yourself.
