Talacre Beach Photo
Point of Ayr lighthouse
Taken in the early afternoon, tide still on the way out and a stiff breeze blowing dry sand from the dunes across the beach. Faintly visible on the horizon are the wind turbines of the North Hoyle offshore wind farm. The lighthouse was built in the late 18th century to mark the entrance to the Dee estuary and its light shone to the north and west only. Control passed to Trinity House from the Point of Ayr Lighthouse Trustees in 1819 and some rebuilding took place subsequently. (RCAHMW reference 34231)
