Coumeenoole Bay (Com Dhineol) – northern beach
Dist:0.3km
This beach, just south of Dunmore Head (An Dún Mór), is unusual in that it has road access, visible at [[918098]], which allows small boats to be launched. The beach also directly faces the westerly gales across Blasket Sound and so is popular with surfers despite strong off-shore currents running through the Sound. Beyond the houses the ground rises to Mount Eagle (1700 feet), and off to the right is Slea Head. Close-up of the beach at [[1713120]]
It was on this (northern) beach of the Bay that most of the shipwreck scenes in the David Lean film “Ryan’s Daughter” (1970) were shot http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi1207239449/
