Barry Island, in the Vale of Glamorgan is a family-friendly seaside resort with the arcades, rides and other facilities to be expected from a tourist destination of this size. Barry was also the setting for the TV show Gavin and Stacey.

Friar’s Point, at one end of Whitmore Bay is a rocky promontory, and on the western side of the headland, lies Little Island Beach, sometimes known as Old Harbour Beach. This small bay can make a good alternative to some of the busier beaches in the area - but only when the tide is out.

When the tide is out a wide expanse of golden sand is exposed between here and Old Knap Point on the other side of the mouth of the former harbour, which is popular with dog walkers.  At high tide, the beach is used by surfers and sea anglers. This stretch of coastline has a tidal range of 15 metres, giving it the second highest tidal range in the world.
