Thorpe Bay (Southend - Thorpe Bay)
Thorpe Bay is a sandy beach located in the Southend-on-Sea area of the Thames estuary by the popular resort of Thorpe Bay. The beach is located slightly over a mile to the east of Southend Pier.
Thorpe Bay has won both Blue Flag and Quality Coast awards guaranteeing not only clean water but that this is a safe family beach with a host of facilities. Unfortunately the Southend Marine Activities Centre is now closed but Thorpe bay is still a good destination for water sports such as kayaking, windsurfing and sailing. If you prefer to keep your activities on dry land you will find nearby there are tennis courts, a bowling club and a paddling pool.
Thorpe Bay is well known for its beach huts and whilst many are privately owned a few are available for hire.
There is pay-for-parking along Thorpe esplanade with access onto the beach via a slipway. If you prefer not to drive to the beach there is also a train station with direct services to London.
Thorpe Bay has plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby, some of which have decking overlooking the beach. In addition there is a shopping area in the town of Thorpe Bay named ‘The Broadway’ where a range of services, shops and restaurants can be found.
